1. What is the RUC number?

In Peru the RUC stands for Registro Único de Contribuyentes (Single Taxpayer Registry). Essentially, it is an 11-digit Tax ID number for any natural or legal person (such as a company) in Peru. It is used in most procedures either with public or private entities.

2. What government agency provides the RUC number?

SUNAT provides the RUC number to natural or legal persons. SUNAT stands for Superintendencia Nacional de Aduanas y de Administración Tributaria, the national customs and tax authority.

3. When is the RUC number provided?

A new company does not apply for its RUC separately. When the notary files the incorporation deed with SUNARP and the company is registered, SUNAT assigns the RUC automatically, and the legal representative receives the SUNAT Online (SOL) user and password. The company then activates the RUC by confirming its fiscal address and choosing its tax regime.

4. What documentation is required to activate the company RUC number?

To complete and activate the RUC, SUNAT usually asks for:

• The ID of the legal representative (DNI, carné de extranjería or passport)

• A document proving the fiscal address, such as a utility bill or a lease

• The incorporation deed registered with SUNARP

• Legal Representative signature

• Registration of the general manager and any other legal representatives in the RUC
